Safer Spaces Policy

This is the Coin-Operated Press Safer Spaces Agreement. It applies to the Coin-Operated Press Team, and anybody working at or attending our workshops and events.

We want Coin-Operated Press to be a place where people feel safe to share themselves and their experiences without the fear of oppression. We do not discriminate against minority factors, such as gender, sexuality, age, ethnicity or nationality, ability, class, language, asylum status, or religious affiliation.

To make sure Coin-Operated Press meetings, workshops, and events are as safe as possible, we ask all zine-makers, attendees, facilitators, and volunteers to agree to the following guidelines:

  • Refrain from oppressive or offensive language. This includes, but is not limited to, language that is sexist, transphobic, racist, xenophobic, ableist, ageist, and homophobic. Refrain from cultural appropriation.

  • Be aware of accessibility. Look at the room layout, use accessible language, and make resources as accessible as possible. Make venue staff or the Coin-Operated Press team aware of any accessibility issues that may arise, and we will do our best to rectify them.

  • Avoid making assumptions about people’s pronouns. Ask, do not guess.

  • Be sensitive towards discussion topics, and be aware of when trigger warnings may be needed in print material.

  • Do not reproduce another person’s work without permission and/or attribution.

  • Be radically kind to each other.
