Who are you? Tell us a little bit about yourself.

We are Sapphic Writers, a small but quickly growing organisation providing sapphics globally opportunities, connection, and support through workshops, publication, performance opportunities, and resources.

What do zines mean to you?

Zines are one of the major opportunities we offer. It allows sapphics around the world who submit to us the chance to share their work and be a part of a community. So Zines are a time where people can get together and connect through their writing and art.

How did you first get started with zines?

Our first Zine was launched June 2020 and since then we’ve had 4 other Zines, with a 5th official Zine launching June 21st! It’s one of the ways we amplify the work of other sapphics.

Tell us about your zines.

Our Zines have touched on different themes such as lockdown, pride, closeness, emergence, love, and fantasy. We use these various themes to connect with different writing and art from our submissions.

What resources do you use to create your zines?

We use Canva to design our zine covers, after selecting the featured submissions, we format all those selected into a PDF that’s filled with art and writing.

Tell us about your zine-making process.

We have all our submissions sent in before going through all of them, picking the ones we want to be showcased, and curating a Zine list made up of various musings and art pieces.

Do you have any advice for newbie zine makers?

Take your time, be thoughtful, have fun!

What is your favourite thing about zine culture?

The sense of community and the wonderful art that comes from it.

Do you have a favourite zine or zinester?

All the people that have submitted to our Zines in the past!

Why do you make zines?

To build community with other sapphics and give them an opportunity to share their work with the world.

Do you have any events, zine fairs, zine launches, or anything else exciting that you would like to tell us about?

June 21st we are having a zine launch called From Sappho to Stonewall! Submissions are closed, but if you want to come support or connect with other sapphic writers, follow our Twitter for updates!
